These late 19th/early 20th century, solid brass andirons evoke the style and lines of the American Arts and Crafts Movement. The Arts and Crafts movement emerged during the late Victorian period in England. As a reaction to the rapid industrialization of English and American life, the Arts and Crafts Movement sought to elevate the value of handcraftsmanship. Arts and Crafts designers sought to improve standards of decorative design, believed to have been debased by mechanization, and to create environments in which beautiful and fine workmanship governed.
Condition: Each piece bears original foundry marks. Missing the billet bars; corrosion; patina; scuff marks to the underside; surface irregularities.
